The ELDOA: What is it and why do I need it?
It’s the number one exercise for spine health and posture.
If you have ever been 10 minutes into a challenging ELDOA class—muscles quivering as 10 seconds turns into eternity—and thought ”why am I doing this again?”…
..you are really not alone;)
The ELDOA is challenging for even the most seasoned athlete, so it takes some real moxie to show up for class and give your ALL. To all the ELDOA students worldwide, congrats for being ready and willing to rise to the occasion! Some of you are a lot tougher than you know.
Who does the ELDOA?
The ELDOA is good for all bodies of all ages. My private clients typically fall into 2 categories:
Athletes looking for performance who need their spine and trunk muscles to function at 100% (golf, baseball) and…
Those with back pain and/or a disc problem who want another option besides drugs and surgery.
What is the ELDOA for?
Let me quickly remind you of the purpose of the ELDOA: To achieve space in the joint.
Why is this important?
Arthritis, degeneration, and disc bulges are a problem of compression. The ELDOA takes pressure off the disc so that the joint can heal. Opening the joint space also takes pressure off of the nerves that exit the spine through the joint space. If you have ever had a pinched nerve in your back, you instinctively know the value of finding relief! Read more about ELDOA and disc herniation here.
What the ELDOA is NOT
The ELDOA is not immediate pain relief. Pain is a multi-layered issue that in which a person’s entire physiology, nutrition and lifestyle must be accounted for. The ELDOA is exercise. Specifically, it is strength & endurance training for the weakest areas of your spine, hips, shoulders.
Anyone looking to circumvent pain will likely be disappointed.
What does it takes to be successful at the ELDOA? Determination. Trust. Patience. You couldn’t do a chin-up at Cross-Fit on your first try, could you?
The promise
Those who possess the fortitude are richly rewarded with strong spine and the ability to keep their discs supple so that surgery might be off the table for good. Though it’s not really the point, participants can also expect ultra-strong hips and legs, improved mobility, and better functioning of the entire body as tight fascia is getting pulled and stretched into its youthful form.
We live in a world of quick fixes. The ELDOA is the long game. But if you are facing age-related decline, ELDOA worth it in every way because nothing else will even come close to improving the quality of your joints quite like this.
And you know what they say..
“You’re only as young as your spine is flexible.” —Joseph Pilates
My job is to occasionally remind you WHY you started. And little by little, you become stronger… in time proving that yes, you are made to move. You are made for this!
